Anthony,
Happy New year to you. I really enjoy your e-mails and your website. As someone who has just started the journey of becoming an actor I enjoy your site which is full of wonderful insights and answers to questions I have had, and it's funny but it seems as though every time you update your site, it answers a question I have been struggling with at that point.
Thank you for your website, you have helped me a lot as I know you have helped numerous others.
Have a wonderful 2008 and may you break a leg in everything you do this year as an actor.

7. Acting Career Promoting and Marketing Activities
Again the parallel. This time between acting career promoting and a couple words about what businesses do to promote their products. Companies spend lots of money and energy on their marketing efforts. Obviously it is of little benefit to have a great product if no one knows about it. What’s the point of having a great store, beautifully decorated, if you don’t get any visitors? The best Web site is of little value if it receives no traffic.
There are countless ways that companies market their products—television, newspapers, magazines, and events. But things are changing. The effect of these mediums isn’t what it used to be, which is pushing ad agencies and companies alike to think of new ways to reach their consumers. One of the ways that has grown in popularity over the years is the concept of giving: the more you give, the more you receive.
This is why companies put out newsletters, e-books, offer free seminars, and give free samples, because statistics tell us that in the end, it pays off. Consumers today want to know before they buy a product that the company they are buying from is reputable, reliable, and credible. This is especially important for small businesses that are not known to the larger population or target audience.
If someone wants to sell something, they must market their product to their target audience. This goes back to what we said about knowing your customers. You must!
Ya Gotta Be Different From The Rest
I have a philosophy. It’s something I learned in one of the greatest companies in the world in it’s industry: Nike. If you want people to notice you, you have to be different. That goes for any field. And in our case, that's where acting career promoting comes in.
In my consulting and corporate training business, I see great trainers who keep trudging along, doing things the hard way, getting clients by word of mouth. Their businesses are small, and they make a modest living. Then there are the go-getters with lots of energy and innovative ways of doing things; they are not always better than the old dogs, but they are very good at the marketing game, and that makes a big difference.
Those are the guys who make radio and television appearances, do interviews with the media, make audio CDs and DVDs, have Web sites that sell their products, have newsletters, collect names and addresses online of people they can market to, cross-sell, up-sell, do joint ventures, and have a host of marketing weapons they use regularly. When you add it all up, it pays off. Our business, your business as an artist, is subject to the same principles. You just have to know how to apply them. If you want people to notice you, if you want to stand out as an individual, no matter what you do or no matter what field you choose, you have to be good at marketing your product: YOU!
Ok, so you know that acting career promoting is a logical bet to increase your chances to get seen, to get work and to have a successful career.
Whatcha Gonna Do?
So, what methods are you using to market yourself as an actor? See here 29 ideas to promote yourself in the industry. Are you getting the results you want? What could you be doing that you are not already doing? How many different ways are there to promote “you” and get recognized by your “customers”?
Acting Career Promoting is a hot topic these days. From what I can see, the actors who are good at it, are the ones who get the work. Take the time to think about it now. You'll be glad you did!

Hi Tony
I would like to thank you for helping me with the monologue question I asked in October 2007. I went to the auditions for a Drama course and I am happy to say that I have been accepted as a first-year student at the Tshwane University of Technology.
Please keep on sending me those newsletters and let me know where I can find books that will help me in my acting career.
Thank you once more.
Have a blessed day.
Sincerely
