A Coogan Account
Exclusive Interview with
LA Casting Director Gabrielle Evans
|
Tony: No. For example they want to be on Disney, and Disney auditions and Nickolodeon auditions and stuff are shot in LA or you know, auditions are in LA, is it possible for me to live in Dallas? Or to live in Arizona? If I wanna do that… Casting Director Gabrielle Evans: Well I mean it’s, demographics are always the key thing but as I always say, just take one step at a time, come to the audition and Disney does a national showcase. If you are living in Kentwood Louisiana like Britney Spears did, and they like you they will be like hey Mom, especially under 16 or under 18 actors, |
Mom are you willing to, we want her on the Mickey Mouse club, the agent will say are you willing to move?
Are you willing to relocate? And that’s up to the Mom. Again it goes back, well I’ve got a job and I want to be a doctor, I have to move, or just go there in temporary quarters or with family and friends and come here. Especially if the child film actors and TV actors, it is amazing, it is literally like a business – I would love for someone to do just a workshop or even a seminar online or somewhere for mothers who want to get their kids into acting, because that is a whole process.
Tony: I have a couple of pages on the site about that too, for parents.
Casting Director Gabrielle Evans: Wonderful! My sister, for example, I am a casting director and my twin sister will say, because she has a seven year old, oh Donna’s been wanting to do this where do I go? My answer is, @you gotta get a Coogan account you gotta do this…"
Tony: What kind of account is that and why is it necessary?
Casting Director Gabrielle Evans: Coogan account is based on Jackie Coogan, who was an actor as a child in Little Rascals and he made all of his money and his father and mother took all of his money. He didn’t get anything. So what the Coogan account does is protects the child’s earnings.
While you are thinking about getting a Coogan account, have a look at this page about all you need to know about Disney auditions!
Have a look here for the same information about Nickelodeon auditions.
And here is some great advice for parents of child actors.
