Dear Tony,
Just a short hello to say that I have been reading your weekly site and wanted to let you know that I recently enrolled in an acting school in Arizona and found a way to pay for it by letting go of the want's and the not need's. Thank's so much for your insight into a common dilemma that is faced by actor's just starting out and for your most practical and common sense approach to acting.

Disney Channel Stars & How They Got Started
Before jumping right in and thinking about where you can find Disney Channel Auditions, it's worth learning a little bit about how your favorite Disney Channel Stars actually got their big breaks and arrived at the stardom they are enjoying right now, the place where you would like to be. Starting this way means that they got on-the-job training and made connections with agents and casting directors that allowed them to begin the successful careers that they have now in acting, singing and performing. This article will take a look at how some of the high-profile Disney channel stars got their start so that you can take some inspiration from their stories. One thing that you will see is that all of them put in a lot of work before they went out on their first Disney auditions- through singing at their local church, taking dance lessons or performing in their high-school play…
The Mickey Mouse Club aired in the 1990s and produced a lot of starts that went on to either successful careers as recording artists or grew into talented dramatic actors. Britney Spears sang in her local choir and performed in dance concerts before auditioning for the Mickey Mouse Club. She was told she was too young and so went and spent her next several summers getting more experience before coming back and successfully auditioning again- a good example of how you shouldn’t give up! Britney Spears also starred in this Disney produced show alongside Christina Aguilera, JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake- all who have gone on to have successful recording careers. Dramatic actors Keri Russell and Ryan Gosling both got their starts on the Mickey Mouse Club, Keri Russell actually started out as a dancer.
Disney’s hugely popular ‘High School Musical’ series of films has produced two up and coming stars, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. For both of these actors this was not the first project they had performed in. Efron started taking singing lessons as a child and appeared in all of his high school theatre productions. He got an agent after his high school drama teacher recommended him and that’s how he found his way to the Disney Channel. One of Vanessa Hudgens starting gigs was an Old Navy campaign.
Miley Cyrus got her start on her father (Billy Ray Cyrus)’s TV show and was only twelve when she first auditioned for Disney (she eventually landed the lead role in ‘Hannah Montana’). On the other end of the scale (not everyone’s Dad has a TV show!) is Selena Gomez, discovered by Disney in their first ever world wide casting search- she appeared on ‘The Suite Life of Zack & Cody’ as well as ‘Hannah Montana’ (as Miley Cyrus’s character’s rival), she now plays Alex Russo on ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’. ‘Hannah Montana’ also launched the immensely successful career of the Jonas Brothers who originally appeared on this Disney show before touring with the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana act. Since then they have made a reality short series and a Disney Channel Original Movie.
Hilary Duff, Anne Hathaway (recently nominated for a best actress Oscar) and Kristen Stewart (who played Bella in the movie ‘Twilight’) are just some of the other performers who all started out in Disney productions.
What You Can Do
Follow the lead of these Disney channel stars and enroll yourself locally in singing, dancing or acting classes (or all three!). Involve yourself in your school’s drama department even if you only start out volunteering or with a small role you never know who will be in the audience or who will have a contact that could lead to you getting an agent or an audition with the Disney Channel. You should get professional photos taken of yourself and put together a professional actor resume so even without an agent you can start submitting your photo and resume to Disney Channel shows.

Remember- this is how Selena Gomez got discovered. And if it doesn’t happen for you straight away don’t give up- both Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears were told ‘no’ the first time they auditioned but they kept taking their acting classes and going back to audition until they got a ‘yes’!
If you are serious and really want to have a chance of being one of the Disney Channel Stars of the future, then you need to do the work.

Most Aspiring Actors Never Make It!
What you’re doing is great Anthony. Whenever I read the things on your site, the interviews and even your book, I feel like if only everybody got to read this before they got started, they would be so much better off and everybody else (casting directors, agents, directors, etc.) would be so much better off too.
