The Television Hosting Reel: Interview with Actress & Television Host Evelyn Vaccaro: Part 9/9

In part 8 of this exclusive interview with actress and television host Evelyn Vaccaro, I asked her to share some of the things she does to get noticed in the industry and that ultimately lead to her getting acting and hosting work.
This page about things to consider when making a reel is part of an exclusive interview with actress and television host Evelyn Vaccaro.
Tony: Any advice for the making of a reel? Someone who has no experience and hasn’t really done much, but they believe they have what it takes and that they would like to get into hosting. They’ve started taking classes and want to submit a reel. What should they consider?
Evelyn: Did you know that Discovery Channel takes reel submissions that are done with home video cameras? They are not concerned with the quality of the video as much as they are with the person on the video. I actually submitted for a job once for Discovery Channel. The instructions for the videos they asked to be submitted were that you had to go out into the street and interview people in passing and you had to ask people about fun gadgets they had on them. I then put together a fun 2 minute video and sent it in and I got called in for a live audition! I didn’t get the job, but just to show you that it is possible to get recognition from these people even with a home made video. So if you have a camera and have even just some basic editing skills, you can throw some music in and a title and then bingo, you got a television hosting reel!
Closing:
Tony: Is there anything else you want to say about the making of a television hosting reel or anything else in generaly in closing?
Evelyn: I just would like to wish you the best of luck with your project. I think it’s really nice when people help other people out. I also often mentor other actors and hosts. If you are looking to be successful then don’t be afraid to contact people who already are successful to try and learn from them.
Always remember that your life experiences are important. Anything that you do, any experience that you have, either document it or at least keep it in your memory bank. Those experiences will ultimately help you in your acting and/or hosting work.
So if you have no actual hosting or acting work experience, make sure you list your hobbies, skills and interest on your resume.
Tony: Evelyn thank you so much for so generously sharing all this great information with the visitors to ActingCareerStartUp.com. I'm sure they appreciate it!

What you’re doing is great Anthony. Whenever I read the things on your site, the interviews and even your book, I feel like if only everybody got to read this before they got started, they would be so much better off and everybody else (casting directors, agents, directors, etc.) would be so much better off too.

Hey Tony, thanks for the info, yours by far is the most useful, I am 30 years old, and I myself always (secretly) wanted to be an actress, but I never knew where to begin, so thank you. You have given me hope!
