Hi Tony!
Most people don’t even take the time to tell a person how to reach their goal. I want to thank you for everything and for responding to my messages. Sometimes I just test people to see if they really care about my career and you do. You can continue to send me some tips on how I can accomplish my goals, because you inspire me a lot. Thank you for caring.

Tips For The Television Host

Interview with Actress & Television Host Evelyn Vaccaro: Part 5/9

Host Evelyn Vaccaro

In part 4 of this exclusive interview with Evelyn Vaccaro, she talks about her first experiences as a television host and how she got started.

I met Evelyn a few years ago in a hosting class. We took the class together and we did some joint hosting exercises together. It was obvious that she was experienced. We've been keeping each other informed about our progress in the industry. As the time was right for you, my readers and website visitors to hear from someone like her, I asked her for an interview and she so graciously accepted. In this part 5 of this interview, Evelyn Vaccaro gives the aspiring television host 18 tips.

Evelyn Vaccaro's tips for the television host:

  1. Take a beginner hosting class that not only teaches you technique, but that also teaches you about the industry and about the kinds of hosting jobs that are available to hosts.
  2. Take an advanced hosting class to improve your hosting skills.
  3. Learn how to use the teleprompter.
  4. Learn how to use the ear prompter.
  5. Always get to set on time.
  6. Be very professional. A lot of my work comes directly from the same directors and producers.  So whenever on set, always give 150% because you never know who is watching. You should always be on top of your game. There’s a lot of competition out there and you really have to give your all, so that you can get that booking again from that same client.
  7. Always know what you need to bring with you. For example there are different styles and different types of clothes for different hosting jobs. Sometimes they will tell you what to wear and sometimes they expect you to dress appropriately for the job.
  8. If they ask you to come hair and make up ready, make sure you go hair and make up ready. And never show up on set with dirty fingernails! The job you are on might require you to handle things in front of the camera so it’s important that you keep on top of your grooming as well.
  9.  Attend industry events.
  10.  Get an actor website.
  11.  Make a hosting reel even if it’s with hand held camera.
  12.  Don’t spend a fortune on your headshots at the beginning of your career.
  13.  Remember that your audition begins the moment you walk in the building.
  14.  Be flexible and ready to take direction.
  15.  Cherish your experiences and remember them as they could come back to help you in your hosting or acting career.
  16.  Smile
  17.  Relax
  18.  Enjoy

In part 6 of this exclusive interview with Evelyn Vaccaro, she talks about what a television hosting audition is really like. In the remaining 4 parts to this interview, she talks about hosting reels and how to make them, headshots and how to use the ear prompter.
